Tips and Tricks for Who's On

  • Who's on Service Has Stopped Collecting Data

    Sirs:

Starting yesterday, my server stopped collecting data (as you can see below). I checked the service, it is started and logged on as ‘local service’. What else should I look for?

Please help – customers as yelling at me.

    Dear Steve,

First to check is the database hasn’t hit a max size barrier. With SQL Server Express, this is 4gb. MySQL is only limited by hard disk size. Built in database will probably start to stop around 2gb.

I assume you are using the log files to track, since there is no tracking code on the site?

If so, check the server is accessing the files correctly -  also check that the logs are actually being written, and haven’t been inadvertently turned off.

If you look at the log in the service manager you would see if there are any log files problems.

Also, check the SQL errors log. This is stored in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Parker Software\WhosOnv4\SQLErrors.log

If this is showing recent errors, send me the last 100 or so lines for diagnosis.

If none of this is successful, then I can remote in to the server and check this for you if you wish.
